Deadline Friday for Second Chance to Meet Special Registration Requirements

Men who are citizens or nationals of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan or Syria (Group I), and:

  • Entered as a nonimmigrant on or before September 10, 2002; and
  • Were born on or before November 15, 1986; and
  • Did not apply for asylum on or before November 6, 2002; and
  • Remained in the U.S. at least until December 16, 2002; and
  • DID NOT REGISTER BETWEEN NOVEMBER 15, 2002 AND DECEMBER 16, 2002,

must now register with a designated INS office by FEBRUARY 7, 2003.

Men who are citizens or nationals of Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Eritrea, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, or Yemen (Group II), and:

  • Entered as a nonimmigrant on or before September 30, 2002; and
  • Were born on or before December 2, 1986; and
  • Did not apply for asylum on or before November 22, 2002; and
  • Remained in the U.S. at least until January 10, 2003; and
  • DID NOT REGISTER WITH THE INS BETWEEN DECEMBER 2, 2002 AND JANUARY 10, 2003,

must now register with a designated INS office by FEBRUARY 7, 2003.

Failure to comply with the Special Registration requirements may render an individual deportable, subject to arrest, detention and fines, and may make future applications for immigration benefits difficult.

Please note that this Special Registration requirement does not apply to permanent residents/greencard holders.
