Five New Countries Added to Special Registration
January 16 2003
The Justice Department added five new countries, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, and Kuwait, to the list of countries whose foreign nationals in the U.S. must register with an INS office. Nonimmigrant males, aged 16 and over, who are citizens or nationals of the above-listed countries must appear before an INS officer at a designated INS office, and be photographed, fingerprinted, and provide answers to particular questions. Willful failure to register may result in deportation proceedings, and make the foreign national inadmissible to the U.S. in the future.
This requirement DOES NOT apply to permanent residents (green card holders), and those foreign nationals who have already applied for asylum.
